I worked with single homeless people for about 14 years in night shelters in Oxford and Cardiff, and on the streets of Central London. I was an Approved social worker in the Neath Mental Health Team for 7 years and I am a trained Relate Counsellor. I have worked s a Family Mediator for the past 18 years. My hobbies include Jive, Lindy Hop, yoga, meditation, tennis, growing vegetables and spending time with my family.
I am currently enjoying my work placement one day a week with Family Mediation Cymru. I am working on my portfolio to become a fully accredited Mediator, after finishing the training in November 2016. I’m currently employed as a Mediator, in a different role, working with teenagers and their families. This is with a Welsh Charity with the aim of preventing homelessness; I have been doing this for nearly 14 years. I graduated in 2001 with a BSc Hons in Psychology with Criminology. I spent about 15 years working part time for Cardiff Council’s Youth Service, whilst I volunteered with a homeless charity, drugs project and the Youth Offending team. I went on to do some Support Work and then settled in my role as a Mediator. This led me to achieving a NOCN Award in Mediation Skills back in 2004. For the last four years I have been designing and delivering some Communication and Mediation staff training for the Charity I am employed by. Through the experience I have gained, I can confidently say my passion lies with mediation and would like to concentrate on developing my career in this further
